Bete Grise Drive
There
are several drives worth taking year round in the Copper Country of the
Keweenaw peninsula. Plan to take your time. While this is only about
100 miles there are all kinds of views to photograph. The portion up 26
is a tunnel of trees for a good portion of the way, you can view the
falls from your car at Eagle River and you can easily spend a good part
of the day in Calumet.
There are lots of scenic curves and historic places along the way. There is a beach at Bete Grise that legend says contains singing sands. When you rub the sand with your hand it produces a sing song sound. The legend also says that if you take the sand away it won't sing anymore.
