the barn quilt block drive - Harrisville
The
motto is "Stitching Together a Community" and is an ongoing project
to use Art and History to Tell Our Story. The Alcona County Quilt
Trail Project celebrates the historical, agricultural and cultural
richness of Alcona County, Michigan.
The project involves constructing large painted, wooden quilt square
replicas on the sides of barns and other traditional buildings in
the area. This trail highlights both Alcona County's rich local
history and the important role that arts and crafts play in the
community.
The first quilt block has been installed and can be seen about 2
miles east of Harrisville on M-72. Several more are planned for 2008
and an additional tour is planned to celebrate the 140th year
anniversary of Alcona County Michigan in 2009.
