Loda lake wildflower sanctuary

forest areaThe Loda Lake is the only Wildflower Sanctuary located in a National Forest.  The Loda Lake area includes a small spring-fed lake, a bog-like wetland, a creek and riparian marshy areas, oak forest, pine plantations and an old farm site.

Loda Lake was originally known as Bass Lake.  In the late 1940's the name was changed "Loda Lake" in honor of a Potawami Princess.

There is a picnic area and an easy 1.2 mile trail with numbered posts along the way to help you identify the broad range of flowers here.

At the turn of the century this beautiful spot was strewn with decaying pine logs left over from the timber harvest.  Thought worthless by many, the area was transformed into the Bass Lake Farm by Mr. Thomas E. Hunt.
