Lexington Music Theatre- Lexington, Michigan

theatre masksIf more tourists are discovering the bucolic and lakefront charms of Michigan’s Thumb, it probably has a lot to do with the growing popularity of the Lexington Music Theatre.

Jaws dropped when the 300-seat theater opened in 2005. Finally, after years of hard work and investment by the theater’s visionary hometown owners, theater-goers could see the craftsmanship in the Victorian-style woodwork, experience the superb acoustics and hear entertainers that normally don’t get around to a town of only about 1,100.

Rock icons such as Eddie Money, Mitch Ryder and Leon Russell come to play and usually stay for autographs and photos. The tribute acts are authentic-sounding and fun, such as AbbaMania, Almost Queen, Australian BeeGees and Elvis to the Max. Throw in a little country, a little classical, a little comedy and some jazz – something for everyone is on the playbill.

Dining and imbibing options next door to the Lexington Music Theatre include: Smackwater Jack’s, upscale deli fare in a casual atmosphere; The Vintage, finer dining but still come-as-you-are, and BrewMaster’s pub, a classy hangout with ales from around the world and a vintage cocktail menu.
