 The
Champion Tree Project was started several years ago to identify the
National and State Champion Trees located in Michigan. At left
is the National Champion Scarlett Oak located in Hillsdale County.
National Champions are the biggest of species and State Champions
are largest of the species in a state.
Michigan ranked 6th in the nation with 48 champions at last count
including, 111 ft. Northern Catalpa, 26 ft. Eastern Redbud and 107
ft. Paper Birch at Point Aux Barques near Pt. Austin in the thumb.
