Hartwick Pines State Park is the largest State Park in the lower peninsula of Michigan. The most unique feature of the park is a 49 acre stand of Old Growth Pines. These Old Growth Pines provide a living reminder of the splendor of the past and the importance of lumbering to Michigan.
Hartwick Pines State Park has an extensive trails system and offers a variety of snow shoe hikes. You can take a guided hike, tour the old growth pines or try the Full Moon Hike that takes place in January and March. The park has an area in excess of 9,000 acres and overlooks the valley of the East Branch of the Au Sable River. Hikers can make their way to four small lakes walking through extensive timber lands.
