Piers Gorge ice circles
Near Iron Mountain in the southwestern upper peninsula, the Menominee River defines the Michigan – Wisconsin border and flows through the forests and hills to empty into Green Bay and Lake Michigan.
These ice circles were at the second pier on the trail.
When you reach the third cataract you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of a wild roaring waterfall in the distance. There are four different falls or rapids along the pathway. It is hard to remember that you are only about 8 miles from town instead of in the middle of some vast unexplored wilderness. The gorge is a wild place, but the pathway is an easy walk even in winter.
