rifle river state recreation area
Just over four miles east of Rose City on scenic F-28 is the entrance to the Rifle River State Recreation Area.
The Recreation Area is open year round with excellent cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowmobile trails. The abundance of lakes in the park makes it a favorite destination in the warm seasons. Camping is available on the lakes and the river. The 14 miles of multi-use trails are a favorite for hikers and bike riders. One of the favorite stops is the observation tower that offers a spectacular view of the area. In addition to the Rifle River, there is Grousehaven Lake, Devoe Lake, Grebe Lake, Jewett Lake, Scaup Lake and Lodge Lake among others. some of the lakes have cabins on them that are available in the summer months.
Once a private huntng and fishing area known as Grousehaven, then a wildlife research area, this Michigan treasure became a State Recreation Area in 1963.
